FLOOD WATERS- An Anglo-Indian Short Story

FLOOD WATERS (ANGLO-INDIAN SHORT STORIES- SERIES- 1 EPISODE 2) Kindle Edition

These short stories are based in “Anglo-Street”, which represents an Anglo-Indian neighbourhood, a fictional area in Calcutta. The places, characters and events of the short stories are all existing, living and occurring in the period of the “Golden Age of Anglo-Indians” in Calcutta, between the 1960s to the 1990s.

˃˃˃ The Waters Rise
The Waters snake through the streets of the City of Calcutta. The rains are not stopping. The heavens have opened for the last two days and there does not seem to be any sign of the rainfall stopping soon

˃˃˃ Thunder and Lightning
Nancy always wondered when she cried why Jesus had taken her mother from her, when she wanted her mother to hold her and love her every day. Her mother would kiss her and bless her before putting Nancy to sleep every night. Her Dad would now tuck her into bed after telling her a story if he was not too tired.

˃˃˃ Hunger After The Rains
“Biriyani Mahal” and “Tandoor House” on Free School Street is crowded with people eating warm and freshly prepared food. It seems that everyone in the city is hungry after two days of heavy rain and cold damp weather.

Happy Birthday Son

Happy Birthday Warren,

The path of life in the beginning is always narrow;
it widens as one moves along and,
every mis-step, every fall; makes one want to race
into the open miles ahead.

You have breached many a trench
in your determined efforts to move forward
in your own pace,
in your own style.

The narrow path has vanished. Now with confidence
you have stepped on the paved Road -
the Highway is now your challenge.
I know you will make it,
taking the highway to the Galaxy.
God be with you!

-Love Dad

On the 15th of June is Father's day. My Dad is miles away in India. I miss my Dad and my friend. I keep in touch with my Father by email and by phone every week. We have long discussions about his literary work every week. I met my Dad after five years when I visited Calcutta at the end of last year for Christmas. Happy Father's Day Dad.

A Father is a friend and mentor. Have a Happy Father's Day with your Dad or think about him if he is not with you and looks down from Heaven and guides you every step of the way.

Henry Louis Vivian Derozio-The Anglo-Indian Poet

Where would you find the greatest Anglo-Indian poet today? In the old burying ground of Calcutta, on the south side of Park Street, amid obelisks, pyramids, pillars and tombs of various forms, at the western extremity," next to the monument of Major Maling on the south,"lies the mortal remains of one of the highest gifted and most accomplished, Henry Louis Vivian Derozio, a poet, philosopher and thinker, who passed away at the age of 22.

Success Life Coaching

It is truly rewarding when you can help a person to get control of his or her life. A Life Coach should always be close at hand to help an individual to understand, solve and create a plan to gain a better perspective into life’s challenges. There are times in life when we feel that we are truly burdened with life’s problems, we feel we are like Atlas holding the world on our shoulders. You need not worry any longer. There is that one person who can help you to better understand your life situation, to know your place and your role in your life, that valuable individual is your guide and mentor, your Life Coach.

Life has so much to offer each and every one of us. We all share common problems, but the unique way in which we are built changes our reactions to our life situations. We all have unique personalities, we grow up in different life situations, we are all genetically unique, but, at the same time, we must remember, we are all part of the human race.

We all should have goals in life, in order to feel the need to get up every morning with a purpose in life and to go to sleep every night with a feeling of having done something worthwhile at night. We all do not have great jobs and we all do not have perfect relationships or have freedom from financial worries. With the help of a Life Coach we can overcome our fears about our relationship, financial or career worries, while we are encouraged to develop self motivation for success.

The main role of a Life Coach is to help you to better understand the forces which are working in your life, and to help you to gain an understanding into your personality and the effect you have on the world around you. You can be your own Life Coach, once you have achieved that level of understanding, so that we do not have to be victims of our life situations, instead we will be able to control and plan our lives for the sweet stink of Success.

Anglo-Indian

This is a poem on the Anglo-Indians.

Who are the Anglo-Indians?

Anglo-Indians are a minority race in India, who are the only race whose mother-tongue is English and who have urban origins and who are Christian by faith. Anglo-indians are the result of affairs and marriages, during Colonial times in India from 1600 AD when the British were in India. British soldiers had children from Indian women, their progeny came to be known as Anglo-Indians.
